Bespoke Sanskrit Workshops for Organisations
Bring the language, sounds and traditions of Sanskrit to your students, members or wider community.
I offer engaging, accessible Sanskrit workshops for yoga studios, wellness organisations, retreat organisers and other groups interested in exploring the language and its rich traditions.
Whether your audience is curious about the meaning and pronunciation of Sanskrit words, wants to explore mantra and chanting, or would like to discover the language behind yoga philosophy and traditional texts, I can create a workshop tailored to their interests and experience.
My particular strength is making Sanskrit approachable, even for complete beginners, without losing the depth and richness that make it so fascinating. Workshops are interactive, with opportunities to explore the language through sound, meaning and practical activities.
Sessions can be delivered online or in person, with the content, length and format designed around your organisation's needs.

What Could Your Sanskrit Workshop Explore?
Sanskrit offers a wealth of possibilities for workshops, from exploring familiar yoga terminology to discovering the language of traditional texts and chanting.
Possible topics include:
-
The sounds of Sanskrit: Discover the Sanskrit sound system and learn how to pronounce the language accurately and confidently.
-
The language of yoga: Explore the meanings of familiar yoga terms and āsana names, including how the words are formed.
-
Mantras and their meanings: Learn to chant traditional Sanskrit mantras with an understanding of their pronunciation and significance.
-
Introduction to Devanāgarī: Discover the Sanskrit writing system and learn to recognise and read some of its characters.
-
Sanskrit and yoga philosophy: Explore important philosophical ideas through the Sanskrit words used to express them.
-
What does that Sanskrit word really mean? Take a closer look at familiar Sanskrit words that are frequently misunderstood or oversimplified.
-
Sanskrit in kīrtana and devotional chanting: Explore the pronunciation, meanings and traditions behind Sanskrit devotional songs and chants.
-
Discovering Sanskrit texts: Take your first steps towards understanding passages from traditional Sanskrit texts, with guidance and explanation.

Online, In Person or a Combination of Both
These are just some of the possibilities. Workshops can focus on a single topic or combine several areas, depending on your audience's interests and experience. No previous knowledge of Sanskrit is necessary for introductory workshops.
A bespoke session might focus on one topic or combine several, depending on the audience and the time available.
Specialist Knowledge, Clearly and Thoughtfully Taught
With over 30 years of experience teaching Sanskrit to children and adults, I bring a combination of academic expertise, teaching experience and genuine enthusiasm for the language.
I hold a Master's degree in Sanskrit Literature from the University of London and am a Fellow of the Royal Asiatic Society. Alongside my many years teaching at St James School in London, I have worked with organisations including Indaba Yoga Studio, Love and All is Coming, Barefoot Body Training, the College of Sound Healing and the British School of Meditation. I am also a faculty member of the School of Ayurveda UK and Temenos Academy.
My teaching draws on a lifelong fascination with Sanskrit, its literature, philosophy, and chanting traditions. I particularly enjoy helping people discover the richness of the language, whether through exploring the meaning of a familiar word, learning to chant a mantra or encountering a traditional text for the first time.
I combine academic rigour with a lively, approachable teaching style, making even complex subjects understandable without oversimplifying them. My aim is for participants to leave not only with new knowledge, but with greater confidence, curiosity and enthusiasm to explore Sanskrit further.
