A 10-day Sanskrit and yoga immersion retreat in Varanasi, where yoga has been orally transmitted for centuries..
This very unique event has been created for sincere seekers and yoga teachers who sense that communication is the key to authentic transmission of wisdom. Through Sanskrit study, we will encounter the original words of the sages; through English, we will cultivate precision and clarity in teaching, bringing the ancient wisdom into the modern world without dilution.
Guided by Elena Jessup (3rd Eye Sanskrit) and Amalia Safi (English for Yoga), participants will work directly with ancient wisdom and its expression in contemporary teaching language.
Participants will spend their time studying Sanskrit pronunciation and recitation from key yogic texts, while refining their English yoga teaching language. Days will unfold in rhythm with Varanasi through yoga, mantra, meditation, and periods of silence, alongside boat rides on the Gaṅgā, temple visits, pujas, and Aarti. There will be devotional practices connected to Goddess Sarasvatī which will cultivate a sacred relationship with speech. All of this will be supported by Ayurvedic meals, riverside reflection, and guided encounters with Varanasi’s living culture led by local pandits and scholars.
